1/ The Russian-occupied city of Berdiansk in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region is reported to be in a state of total energy collapse, having had no electricity since 2 August. Local inhabitants report that the only alternative is portable generators running on scarce gasoline. ⬇️

2/ The Russian authorities appear to be doing little to ameliorate the energy crisis. Russian warblogger Sergei Kolyaskov draws attention to the ongoing situation in the Russian-occupied south of Ukraine, and posts messages sent to him by local residents:

3/ “Seryozha, good afternoon, I’m in Berdiansk now. I brought my mother lamps and power banks. Every morning begins with searching for a place to charge her phone. 

4/ “There has been no power since 2nd August, and the worst part is that the authorities are silent, people are in silent panic, hoping for the best. Those who could have bought generators, small stores can’t cope and are closing. 

5/ “Schools were promised generators, but were told that gasoline is at the parents’ expense. Everything is very deplorable, and this applies to the entire Berdiansk region.” 

6/ “Hello, I’m from Berdiansk. The city has been without electricity for almost a month, water is supplied according to a “schedule” only in the evenings and not in all districts.

15/ “I hope I can get through to the neighbouring street. Not all municipal services are working, and they’re operating on a limited basis (basically, they’re using generators, like everyone else in the city). 

16/ “Fuel costs 180-200 rubles, and a generator consumes a significant amount of power daily. And God forbid we buy the gasoline that the resellers brought from the Rostov region, because nothing will work with the local stuff with a ton of sediment. 

17/ “A huge number of stores have closed because it’s difficult to store food.

Nevertheless, the city’s school system will resume on a reduced schedule starting 1st September. 

18/ “All the regional ministry’s claims that they will be responsible for providing generators and fuel for educational institutions are nonsense. At our school, the parents’ committee is donating money for a generator and water tanks on its own initiative.
