“The B61-11 is the United States’ 400-kiloton nuclear earth-penetrating weapon (EPW). It was developed in the 1990s to replace the retired B53 bunker buster, offering similar ground-shock destructive capabilities with significantly less radioactive fallout due to its lower yield and improved penetration.
Key characteristics of the B61-11 include:
Design: It is a modification of the B61-7, repackaged in a high-strength steel case with a reinforced nose and tail ballast to survive impact.
Capabilities: It can penetrate up to 20 feet into dry earth or frozen soil, transmitting explosive energy efficiently to destroy buried targets.
Accuracy: As an unguided gravity bomb, it has limited accuracy (360–560 feet circular error probable), which necessitated the high 400 kt yield to ensure target destruction.
Deployment: It is exclusively delivered by the B-2 Spirit strategic bomber, with approximately 50 units stockpiled.
While the newer B61-12 offers superior guidance and variable yields (up to 50 kt), it has less earth-penetration capability than the B61.
We are going to use this on Pickaxe”
